It is advisable to make a one-sided visiting card. Then the man may make an entry on a back side. A visiting card may be used to impart the necessary information with the help of a special international symbolism. Signs are written by a pencil on a back of visiting card in a left bottom. It may be:
- P.F. (pour feliciter) – “to congratulate” - P.F.N.A. (pour feliciter le Nouvel An) – “Happy New Year” - P.R.N.A. (pour remercier et pour feliciter le Nouvel An) – “to show gratitude and Happy New Year” - P.R. (pour remercier) – “to show gratitude”. It is sent within 24 hour with the aim to thank for a received visiting card. - P.C. (pour condoleance) – “present condolences” - P.P.S. (pour rendre) – “as a sign of parting” - P.P. (pour presenter) – “may I introduce myself?” Such kind of inscription is sent to whom you wish to introduce yourself. But you must have a mutual friend and attach his visiting card. - P.F.C. (pour faire connaissance) – to express satisfaction in an acquaintance.
Visiting cards with P.R. and P.P.S. usually are left without response. Your visiting card is sent with P.R. in answer to visiting cards with P.C. and P.F.C. This is an international symbolism which is understood worldwide. In a number of cases, you may make other entries. But it is obligatory to write in the third person. As for example: “Grateful for your greetings”, “With best regards”, “Thankful for attention” etc.
